MAMBO

– AMERICAN STYLE RHYTM –

In the 1940s, America was fascinated by Latin American rhythms, that is, the original music of the Mambo. “El Guardia Con El Tolete” began in 1944, and appeared as a Rumba with the addition of improvisation. Mambo combines American Jazz with the Afro-Cuban rhythm.

MOVEMENT CHARACTERISTIC

The basic components of the Mambo are the rock step and the side steps; the style of the feet includes points, kicks or whiplashes. The Latin movement of hips present in the Mambo is a very important aspect of this dance. The general essence of the dance is contained in the translation of the word Mambo itself, which means “shake it” or “say it”.

MUSICAL TIME

The music of the Mambo is written in a time of 4/4, with the characteristic that each measurement is divided into 4 bars with the importance of the musical accent, which is located on the first and third bars. This type of music can be offered on a wide range of rhythms.
