Dance As Fire

MERENGUE

– CARIBBEAN STYLE –

There are 2 stories that tell the birth of this dance: the first declaration that started from a peasant dance in the Dominican republic of African slaves. The second maintains that General Mariengie, a hero returning from the war, celebrates his return home by dancing and since he had one injured leg he dragged himself dancing on the other leg.

MOVEMENT CHARACTERISTIC

Steps walked, weight change sideways! This dance looks like a march that can be very rhythmic thanks to the Cuban movement! It is a festive and fun looking dance.

MUSICAL TIME

Written in a time of 2/4 and 4/4 or in some versions of 6/8. The main emphasis on the first bar.
